THE JOHN MUIR TRAIL

Unfortunately I lost my pictures from my climb over Seldon Pass, past Sallie Keyes Lake and up the South Fork of the San Joaquin River. It turns out my film wasn't advancing. Its about a 2500 ft descent to the river from Seldon Pass. Many people take a little side trip here to Muir Trail Ranch for a final resupply. Blayney Hot Springs nearby is a popular stop over stop. I bypassed it after hearing that there was a scout troop there. After getting my food I continued up the trail along the river. It was a Friday afternoon and there were a lot of people that had come up from the Fresno area, taking the Florence Lake Boat Taxi and camping along the river which looked to have some good campsites. Not seeing too many places available to camp along this popular area I continued till I was just inside Kings Canyon. I ended up doing about 16 miles that day and my pack was 60 or 70 pounds after getting my food for the next 2 weeks. There I made camp in a dusty area along the river with plenty of curious wasp checking out everything as I emptied my backpack. I did make an important discovery that day. The wasp will leave you alone when get up on the flat rocks. They like to fly around the dirt.

The next day I continued up into Evolution Valley. The above picture shows some of the pools in Evolution Creek along the final climb to the valley. After you finish your climb you'll get your feet wet crossing the creek.
