Leaving
Grand Marais you'll hike along cross country ski trails past the spur
trail to Pincushion Mountain before dropping down to the Devils Track
River and its campsites. It must have been fun putting this bridge in
but it should stay awhile. Several days after I first camped here this
area got 3 to 5 inches of rain and this river flooded the highway,
closing it. The Gun Flint Rd leading into Grand Marais lost one of its
2 lanes and several bridges on the SHT were temporarily washed out. Its
a good thing this bridge is high above the river. Looking at the lack
from plants along the river banks it looks like it sometimes gets at
least 5ft higher.
