 TAHOE YOSEMITE TRAIL

While descending Summit City Creek you get a view of your route up to Lake Valley. It climbs up the side of the canyon in the center of the picture before entering the canyon on the right near Mt Reba. This climb is about 3500 feet and there is very little shade or water. I recommend camping near the bottom of the canyon so you can start the climb first thing in the morning before it gets hot. Make sure you carry plenty of water as there is little of it after leaving Underwood Creek. You don't reach anymore water till you're almost done with the climb. When I went past Camp Irene there wasn't anyone there but there is plenty of evidence of horse packers and others camping there. The crossing at Camp Irene was easy when I was there, but could be difficult in early season.
