 TAHOE YOSEMITE TRAIL

Stanton Peak and Grey Butte are visible looking north from Cold Canyon. Imagine 100 years ago sheep herders in this area. I often wonder if there would be more wildflowers here if not for the sheep. I read that John Muir herded sheep in Yosemite and sometimes he'd protect the wildflowers from the sheep. The Calvary had a problem driving the sheep herders out of the park till they started to haul the sheep herder to Camp Mather near Hetch Hetchy, and then telling him go back and round up his herd and get them out of the park. It didn't take long before they quit coming here.

I found an old trail crew camp about 1/2 a mile off the trail near here that I believes dates to the 70's. While camped there one night I was awaken one night from the scream of a cat. I thought it was a mountain lion but I found out later that they don't scream like that. It turns out it was a bobcat.
