Jay Cooke State Park is located off I-35 south of Duluth
Minnesota and borders Wisconsin. Its on the
North Country Trail which extends from New York to North
Dakota. The Superior Hiking Trail
will eventually extend through the park allowing people to hike
from Wisconsin to the Canadian border. The North Country Trail
will probably be rerouted so that it follows this route. Its
intended route covers an area that contains a lot of lakes &
swamps that would make it difficult to build a trail. There are
several campsites at the park, with the furthest one about 2
miles in. The trails are also used in winter for crosscountry
skiing. The St Louis River which traverses the park is a popular
area for whitewater kayaking, something I'd like to get back
into.
