I flew over the Indian Ocean many times between the Persian Gulf and Diego Garcia, a small island about 1000 miles south of India. On one of those trips we talked to a U.S. Navy S3 Viking, who then pulled up alongside of us. These planes are used to carry supplies, hunt subs and refuel fighters.
