One reason I like Redwood Regional Park is that the trails don't turn to mud like they do in other parks. Oh sure, they do get muddy, but not so bad that you can't walk on them. Some parks such as Black Diamond Mines are so bad that you'll end up with big clumps of dirt on your boots. I recently tried to hike there was had to clean the mud off my boots about every 30 steps. This is the East Ridge Trail which is similar to the West Ridge Trail. Both are hard packed dirt. Other trails are different but I have yet to see any so bad that I couldn't hike them. The French Trail is my favorite. Its in the Redwoods and the trail has plenty of pine needles that keep the trail firm. |
