| If you begin your hike from the north end you begin at Meeks Bay at Lake Tahoe, following Meeks Creek upstream past several lakes. You can mail ahead to the Forest Service at Lake Tahoe and get a hiking permit for the entire trail at the nearby office. You'll also need a fire permit so make sure you get one there. Most people start the trail from the north as its easier and food drops can be made easier. After you pass Highway 108 there is no place to send food unless you want to pay horse packers to haul food in. Not a cheap option. |
