| As you climb past the outlet creek to Fontanillis Lake you can look down on Velma Lakes and Lake Tahoe. This area is part of the Desolation Wilderness which has been heavily impacted by people. The number of people allowed into the wilderness has been reduced and fires are no longer allowed so you will need a stove. When I hike I always carry a walking stick which I can use for creek crossings, cross country travel and for hanging food. I've had problems finding long sticks to use in hanging food, as people have burned everything in sight in poplar areas. The walking stick also has a camera mount so I don't carry a tripod. They can also save your knees. |
