| Just above the Greathouse Visitors center is the opening to Eureka Slope. This inclined mineshaft opening is the entrance to the Eureka Coal Mine which was in operation from 1860 till 1895. 150,000 tons of coal was mined during that period. This shaft is 290 feet long and descends at a 32 degree pitch. |
