Shortly after leaving Virginia Lake you'll
start your descent to Tully Hole. Above you can see the trail
on the lower left as it descends into Tully Hole. The John Muir
Trail goes to the right at the bottom of the descent but another
trail to McGee Pass continues on toward the background. Two brothers
that had started the same day as I spent some time trout fishing
on the creeks flowing down from Tully Hole toward Fish Creek.
They practiced catch and release of the fish only rarely did
they keep their catch. One thing to remember when fishing is
that is possible to attract bears from the smell. Make sure you
keep a clean camp and don't wipe your hands on your clothes.
After a short descent toward Fish Creek the
trail starts its climb up to Squaw Lake. The picture below shows
a view looking toward the ledge where the lake is located. The
third picture looks back toward the lake as you continue your
climb up to Silver Pass and the fourth picture is Chief Lake,
the last lake before the pass.
