THE JOHN MUIR TRAIL

Upper and Lower Palisade Lakes are both visible from the area where most people camp. The elevation of the lower lake is about 10,600 ft and the peak on the left that you can't see all of is over 12,400. I included the above picture from my previous hike because you can see more, which is evident by the picture below which I took on my climb up to Mather Pass, 12,100 ft. Fortunately when I woke up I was finally able to dry all my gear out after 4 days of hiking in rain. Even though this looked threatening it never did rain that day. Unfortunately things took a turn for the worse leaving Mather Pass.
