| From the Fire Lane Trail which connects Sky Camp with Coast Camp you'll have good views of Limatour beach. It is thought that Sir Francis Drake landed here. It takes about an hour to drive to Limatour Beach where you can park and walk to Coast Camp on the beach. This is best done when the tide is out as the firm sand is easy to walk on. There is also a Yourth Hostel off of the Limatour Road. There is a lighthouse out on the point if you want to drive out there, just make sure you are perpared for winter weather, even in August. The Lighthouse is also a good place to look for whales. |

Another view of Limatour beach from the Fire Lane Trail. Below is another view, this time from Sky Camp. The fog comes in often here so you have to be prepared for it. I once read in Readers Digest about "The Green Flash." It said that in places such as the coast you might see a green flash if you watch the Sunset from a place with an unobstructed view. I've yet to see it. When the sun passes below the horizon the atmosphere separated the light. If you don't blink while watching the sunset you might see it. One evening I was at this same location watching the sunset. After the sun went below the horizon I started to change my film when another guy doing the same thing came and asked if I had seen the "Green Flash." I'm still watching! |
