Leaving
Country Rd 301 you'll soon cross the Encampment River Bridge. I didn't
get any pictures of it last time I was there because I was too busy
helping rebuild it. The river bank on the west side slumps, which
constantly causes problems. The bridge also doesn't follow the
easements from the landowner, which have the bridge crossing the river
at an angle. The repairs completed in fall of 2010 are considered
temporary, and they are considering trying to replace the bridge with a
permanent structure in about 5 years, possibly with a suspension
bridge. I told them about the Woods Creek Bridge in Kings Canyon
National Park and they were looking into getting a copy of the drawings
for that bridge. If they build something similar I sure hope I can help
build it!
From Country Rd 301 to Castle Danger the trail is
pretty level. There are some nice flowers in places, including the Iris
above, and some Columbine at the Crow River Crossing below.
