One
of the more popular sections of trail is the Bean & Bear Lake Loop
near Silver Bay. There is a spur trail from Silver Bay called the Twin
Lakes Loop that most people hike. This section of the SHT is my
favorite, mainly because I'm the volunteer that is responsible for its
upkeep. All of the trail, campsites and trailheads on the Superior Hiking Trail are cared for by
volunteers twice a year, once in early spring and once in the fall.
Bean Lake is the first lake reached, and Bear Lake is just a short
distance away. My stretch of trail is from Penn Blvd to Palisade Creek,
about 6 miles, most of which is in Tettagouche State Park. The picture below is taken from the east side of Bear
Lake looking toward Bean Lake. |
