The top picture was taken from about 12,000 feet while flying over Mt St Helens the winter after it explode. The bottom picture is taken looking into the Mt Pinatubo Crater in the Philippines. The steam is rising from the volcanic plug which formed to block the vent of the volcano. It rains a lot in the Philippines so the crater has collected rainwater and the volcanic plug is so hot that the water turns to steam. This used to be a rain forest. |
