| LeConte Canyon opens up more the further down the canyon you go, passing through Big Pete and Little Pete Meadows. There is a ranger cabin just beyond Little Pete Meadow near the trail junction with the Bishop Pass trail. Some people hike over Bishop Pass for food. I've read that Parchers Resort at South Lake will hold food for hikers but the only listing I can find is one on a Forest Service page. Its about 8 miles each way. In the picture below you can see the opening in the left side of the canyon where the trail comes down near the rangers cabin. The bottom picture is taken from closer range. Only 4 more miles to the bottom of the canyon. |
