On the first day I started
my hiked from Summit Lake and I hiked to Snag Lake, via Twin
Lakes. A route of about 7 miles. The following day I hiked to
Cinder Cone, then followed the Nobles Emigrant trail to the Pacific
Crest Trail. I followed that trail to the next junction and
then over to Feather Lake for another nine miles. My last day
I hiked back to Summit Lake by way of the Bear Lakes, another
five miles. Although there is not a lot of elevation change on
this hike, that part of the trail that's on volcanic ash is hell,
much like hiking on dry sand. You'll notice that there aren't
too many creeks here, and those that do exist are seasonal, as
in early season. The volcanic landscape here swallows up creeks
fast so that you can't count on them for water most of the year.
