 MT. DIABLO STATE PARK

At 3,849 ft Mt Diablo is the tallest peak in the eastbay. Views on a clear day allow you to see as far as Mt Lassen National Park, the crest of the Sierra Nevada, and almost the entire bay area. There are a number of trails in the park that will allow you a wide variety of hiking. You'll see anything from rugged dry canyons to waterfalls and nice green valleys full of wildflowers. There is also a wide variety of wildlife. The eastern side of the park is off of the Morgan Territory Rd which is the most remote part of the county. Don't go there if you feel uncomfortable driving a narrow one lane road where you might have to come to a sudden stop and back up to allow someone by. Cyclist also like to use this road to do a loop around Mt Diablo so watch out for them also.
