Several years ago I went up to Mt Shasta with a few friends in an attempt to reach the top. About half of the group made it to the top. I wasn't one of them, in fact I was the first to turn back. We had been hiking for about an hour when I had to turn back when I remembered that I'd left my sunglasses back in the tent . You can't hike on the snow without proper eyewear or you'll suffer from snow blindness. If you do attempt to hike without them your eyes will hurt for days and you'll get little sleep, if any at all. One thing to remember about these pictures, they were taken on the Fourth of July weekend. At the time I did this hike it was free, but that has changed. I've since read that there is a 15$ charge which I assume you can probably pay at the local mountaineering store in Shasta City. The name of the store is The Fifth Season. Whenever I get a chance to take some telemark lessons I'd like to go back and try again, and maybe do it in one day. |
