| The Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) enters(or should I say leaves since most hikers go from south to north) at Dorothy Lake Pass, and continues down to Wilma Lake before it heads east. The Tahoe Yosemite Trail differs in that it goes up to Tilden Lake and then south to rejoin the PCT. I hiked the route above when hiking the Tahoe Yosemite trail. If you're hiking out of Hetch Hetchy you'll have a big climb to first get out of the valley. For a number of miles the trail remains in the forest as it climbs up Moraine Ridge before dropping down to the creek in Jack Main Canyon. Be prepared for mosquitoes in part of the Jack Main, as they can be bad in early season. Elsewhere in Jack Main they won't be as bad as some parts of Jack Main are more rocky, and some are more swampy. The upper part of the Jack Main is called Grace Meadow. |
