 NORTHERN YOSEMITE

Cold Creek, Matterhorn & Kerrick Canyons, Benson Lake

I've always liked Sawtooth Ridge. I've camped here twice just off the trail and taken a day off each time, not seeing anyone. I got to watch the small clouds form after the wind blew past the peaks. Look for the small clouds just to the left of the center of the picture at the top. They didn't exist till they blew past the peak, and the condensation formed a small cloud. The picture below is taken from Mule Pass, looking toward Burro Pass, with Sawtooth Ridge on the left.

Just north of Mule Pass is the Hoover Wilderness, seen in the picture below. The trail descends down to a point below Crown Point, before it start to climb up to Rock Island Pass, and Snow Lake. Many people come from Island lakes along this trail to get into the north part of Yosemite.

Snow Lake from Rock Island Pass

In the first picture below is your first view of Kerrick Meadow on the descent from Rock Island Pass. I've camped on the creek just above this point and found "T" blazes that were left by the Calvary over 100 years ago. The trail has since been moved further away from the creek so few people will ever see them. The last picture is also taken in Kerrick Meadow. The meadow is very flat till you get close to the PCT. I've never seen anyone here. There is one lake near the trail for those that want to get off the trail. Its suppose to be pretty easy to get to even though there is no trail.
