Washburn Lake above, is one of two large lakes in this canyon. You can make out where Lyell Creek enters the canyon above on the left. Look for the flat granite ledge just above the trees behind the lake. That is where the waterfalls on the previous page are from Triple Creek Fork. Below is a waterfall between Washburn & Merced Lakes. |
There is a ranger cabin located in the woods near the trail junction with the Vogelsang trail. Merced Lake High Sierra Camp is a short hike from there. You'll know you're there when you reach this spot above and empties into a nice pool before it flows into Merced Lake. The trail descends off the rocks into the camp. The backpackers camp is nearby. Continue hiking along the lake to the far end and you can look up canyon below. The trails to Vogelsang go up the canyon to the left. The High Trail climbs up through the trees and then along the left side of the canyon which goes to the right. |
