LASSEN

HOME

This is from my campsite at Snag Lake, a pretty place but not one of my favorite places to camp. About an hour after I made camp 4 adults with 4 kids came in and set up within 100 feet of me. Obviously they haven't read the park brochure which tells you not to camp within 300 feet of other people. I usually don't camp at lakes for just this reason. I consider it disrespectful of others to camp so close. The deer above didn't care. They were so tame that they would walk to within 30 feet of you. What they really liked was to get the salt that is in your urine. I have seen deer eat into a decaying log 3 inches to get salt in this manner. If at all possible, pee on rocks so they can't do this.

The view form my campsite. In the center of the picture is the Lava flow from Cinder Cone. The water from Snag lake flows into Butte Lake through the lava flow.

This is a better look at the lava flow at Snag Lake.
