SIERRA WILDFLOWERS

EMIGRANT WILDERNESS

The Tahoe Yosemite Trail hikes through the Emigrant Wilderness, starting at Kennedy Meadows its a long uphill climb. The picture above is taken from the upper parts of the trail. On one side of the canyon the rocks are granite while they're volcanic on the opposite side. One of the old wagon train routes was through this canyon. This was the easy part! Many people continue uphill and then head toward Huckleberry Lake. The following pictures were taken just north of Huckleberry Lake just outside the northwest of Yosemite. Occasionally you'll see some old mine wreckage in this area. There is even an old road from the Levitt Meadows area that leads to the upper reaches of the emigrant. I've read that some people still have mining rights in some areas which they maintain, but they're probably just using it as an excuse to camp with a 4-wheel drive. The last picture is from just north of Huckleberry Lake. Unfortunately just after I set up camp it started to rain, then the noisy horse packers came and set up camp across the stream from me.
